Consequences of having demerit points
G class drivers may accumulate fifteen demerit points, however, once
a G class driver reaches nine (9) demerit points the Ministry of
Transportation will schedule a meeting with the driver and may
result in a possible suspension of the license.
In the event that a driver has fifteen (15) demerit points the
Ministry of Transportation will suspend the driver's licence for
thirty (30) days, if additional points are obtained the driver will
face six (6) months suspension for any subsequent accumulation of
demerit points.
It is a common misconception that drivers “lose” demerit points due
to convictions for traffic offences. In fact, a driver begins with
zero demerit points and “accumulates points”.
